The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) strongly condemns the IED attack by Taliban militants in Kabul that killed three ISAF members and injured more than a dozen innocent Afghan civilians. This is yet another example of the Taliban’s brutality and continual lack of regard for human life. (Photo Credit Shah Marai/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images)
As annotated by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan’s (UNAMA) Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict Mid-year report, dated July 2014, the Taliban are responsible for over 90 percent of civilian casualties. They repeatedly conduct attacks which injure and kill innocent Afghan citizens and those trying to assist them.
“I express my deep sympathies to the victims of this attack and their families,” said Gen. John F. Campbell, ISAF commander. “This continued violence by the Taliban shows their disregard for the strong partnership built over the years between ISAF and the Afghan people.”
ISAF, in cooperation with Afghan security forces, remains committed to protecting the Afghan people and holding accountable those responsible for these type attacks. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those killed and injured.
